Protestors Should Respect Rules of Civil Society: Khatami

TEHRAN, June 25 (Mehr News Agency) -- President Mohammad Khatami said here Wednesday that people are free to criticize and voice their opposition as long as they do it within the framework of the law

President Khatami also told reporters that any violent, destructive, or illegal activity by any group or individual will be dealt with according to the law.

 

He said that no system allows riots, stressing that students are also expected to observe rules and regulations of civil society.

 

The president added that Iranian society, and university students in particular, are in favor of a civil society in which authorities accept criticism and protests, but expect those who want to criticize to respect the rules of civil society.
